Schafers’ ’66 Beaumont Custom

Feature of the Month – December 2014

Larry_SchaferAfter a 2-year and over 40 car search for a car, we found and purchased the Beaumont in Aug. 2011.

The previous owner did an at home frame off restoration in 2004. Overall, he’d done an excellent job on the restoration, however he painted it in his garage and the paint quality was not that great.  The first winter I took all the trim and chrome off and block sanded the body and repainted the car. Everything that went back on the car was either rechromed, replaced, repainted or polished.

I also have detailed the engine compartment and done some touch ups to the interior. The car originally came with a 283, a powerglide and bench seat. It now has a 383 stroker (made to look like an original 327), Muncie M20, buckets and console. Last spring I changed the wheels and tires to Diamond back (BF Goodrich) redlines and Cragar Eliminators for that “Day 2” look.

We have had a lot of enjoyment with the car the last few years, driving it and taking it to shows; even winning a few awards. We hope to do more in the future and hopefully take in a few club events.
